Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer for Virginia, southern West Virginia and Maryland, is seeking a Heavy Equipment Painter at our Waldorf, Maryland location.  This position is responsible for preparing and painting machine components and performing basic maintenance and repairs to Caterpillar and allied machines.  The painter will prepare machines and components for shipment, constructing custom wood crates using various hand and power tools.  Must ensure all items are tagged and shipped to proper locations. Maintenance duties may include changing oil, replacing fuel filters, replacing bulbs and hoses, charging/changing batteries, changing wheel assemblies, etc.  Seeking candidates with two years’ previous heavy equipment, automotive or industrial painting, including six months using a high-volume low-pressure paint gun.  Job requires a basic mechanical aptitude and the ability to use tools and equipment correctly.


  • Self-starter able to work with limited supervision.
  • Able to interpret work orders, order necessary parts and supplies, and prepare component/equipment to receive paint.  Paint and refinish work must be applied in an even and consistent manner.
  • Able to wear and use a supplied air respirator while in paint booth; must ensure safety measures are in place to keep fumes and paint from escaping the confines of the paint booth.
  • Proficient in the use of a computer, Microsoft Office products and service software required in position; able to complete service reports and provide pertinent details for work orders.
  • Able to maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Able to work overtime as required by job and customer demand.

Must meet physical requirements for the job, including the ability to lift, carry and maneuver items up to 70 pounds, including bulky objects.  This position requires repeated reaching, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending and climbing beside, onto and under a variety of heavy equipment.  Work assignments will be completed on ladders, work platforms and high-reach baskets.  Able to hold and use high-pressure blast nozzle/paint sprayer for extended periods of time.
