PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is instrumental to the company’s success. Safety, efficiency and pride are key attributes of an excellent Heavy Equipment Mechanic. All mechanics are required to be safe and responsible for their assigned equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To maintain the fleet of equipment for safety and efficiency, adhere to all company policies and safety regulations, while meeting all uptime goals.

Requirements

·       Must have Class B CDL w/Hazmat endorsement

·       Competent in heavy equipment repair, welding, and preventative maintenance

·       At least 3-5 years of experience

Main Activities

·       Maintain the operation of all heavy equipment in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant legislation, policies and procedures

·       Perform daily safety and maintenance checks

·       Practice workplace safety

·       General daily preventative equipment maintenance

·       Welding

·       Diagnostics

·       Major component rebuilds and repairs

·       Light labor, various yard duties as needed

Heavy Equipment Mechanic Needed For:

·       Excavator

·       Haul truck (rigid frame & articulated)

·       Bulldozer

·       Motor grader

·       Roller

·       Water truck

·       Backhoe

·       Farm Tractor

·       On highway trucks

·       Miscellaneous small equipment and trailers

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge

The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas or be willing to learn:

·       Equipment operation and maintenance

·       Equipment safety

·       Knowledge of operation of front end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors, and other pieces of heavy equipment

·       Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures

·       Knowledge of equipment cleaning standards and procedures

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Demands

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic has a physically strenuous and demanding job. He/she will be lifting, pulling and managing heavy equipment and objects. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will have to work in all weather, and must be prepared for both extreme heat and cold. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic must ensure that all activities are completed in a safe and efficient way.

Environmental Conditions

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic must work outside in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and extreme heat. He/she may at times be exposed to dangerous and/or toxic substances and must take necessary precautions to protect eyes, nose and skin from irritation and infection.

Sensory Demands

He/she may at times be exposed to dangerous and/or toxic substances and must take necessary precautions to protect eyes, nose and skin from irritation and infection.

Mental Demands

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic must work independently and is expected to maintain a schedule of work. Any problems or inconveniences may result in increased stress to complete tasks in a limited time.

Time Demands

Equipment maintenance as well as unplanned downtime may at times require working hours outside of “normal” work hours and weekends if needed.
