About

Royal Electric Company traces its origin to 1961 when Leo F. Vellutini began contracting out of his home in Sacramento, CA. By 1971, the Royal Electric Company name was adopted and becoming known for its exceptional service in small commercial, residential and maintenance work. The 1970s were marked by growth in several market areas, including multi-family, industrial and public works construction. Leo’s son, Frank Vellutini, joined the company in 1974. He became a partner with his father in 1977 when the firm incorporated as Vellutini Corporation dba. Royal Electric Company. In the early 1980s, the partners added a specialty in underground electrical work. After starting with underground utilities such as street lighting and traffic signals, Royal soon moved into other niche underground markets including airport runway lighting and highway projects.

During the 1990s the firm became one of the top 50 specialty contractors in California, and one of the top five electrical contractors in Sacramento. Frank Vellutini became president and CEO in 1991; he continued to expand on the company’s areas of expertise throughout California and nine other Western States. Also notable in the 1990s was the promotion of Bob Bell to vice president and the addition of Dina Vellutini Kimble as a third generation family member to the firm. The 2000s brought continued expansion and change with Bob Bell becoming a partner in 2002 and later being promoted to COO in 2004. In recent years, Dina Kimble became a partner in 2012 and currently serves as president. The final addition to the ownership team occurred in 2015 with the partnership of Eric Gardner Jr., who is the Vice President of Horizontal Markets. The firm’s expertise and financial strength have allowed it to continue to grow and prosper, performing multi-million dollar projects on everything from airport runways to new high schools, jail facilities to bridge security systems, casinos to fiber optic systems.

Throughout the years, Frank Vellutini has insisted on maintaining the company’s dedication to customer service, quality, and especially its relationships. Royal Electric Company still maintains a service department today that looks very much like the company did in 1971, and remarkably, still serves many of the same customers.
